In 2012 Ian made his TV debut as a commentator for the BBC at the Olympic Games in London and released an autobiography titled ‘This Is Me’ which touches upon his battle with depression and the pressures that go along with being an athletic icon. He is continuing his career in the swimming world as a broadcaster and also founded the Ian Thorpe Fountain for Youth which raises funds for research into childhood illnesses and sponsors a school in Beijing. In 2010, the foundation was honored by the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders, recognising and acknowledging the professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future.
