Dame Ellen MacArthur made yachting history in 2005, when she became the fastest solo sailor to circumnavigate the globe. Driven by her mission to create a sustainable future, she has since dedicated her time to raising awareness of the Circular Economy - encouraging businesses, people and organisations to develop worldwide initiatives that aim to benefit the planet and future generations.

In 2009, Dame Ellen MacArthur made the decision to leave her professional sailing career and embark on a four-year journey around the globe, studying the issues of our current global economy and the need for a regenerative circular one. She founded the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, to help promote a transition to the new system, and served as Vice-Chair of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Meta-Council and on the European Commission's Resource Efficiency Platform between 2012 and 2014. For her efforts, she was awarded the French Legion of Honour, and is a Patron of the Big Bang Fair - the UK's largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths for young people.
