Between 1988 and 1995, de Soto and the ILD spearheaded around four hundred initiatives, laws, and regulations that reshaped Peru's economic landscape. Notably, ILD designed the overhaul of Peru's property system, issuing titles to over 1.2 million families and facilitating the transition of some 380,000 previously informal businesses into the formal sector by slashing bureaucratic barriers. De Soto's expertise has extended to crafting similar development strategies in nations like El Salvador, Haiti, Tanzania, and Egypt, earning recognition from influential entities such as the World Bank and the South African government. Moreover, he has wielded his economic acumen as a consultant and corporate leader across Europe.
