Leo Varadkar, is an Irish politician renowned for his tenure as Taoiseach/Prime Minister of Ireland from 2022 until 2024, and previously from 2017 to 2020. He also undertook the role of Tánaiste from June 2020 to December 2022, alongside occupying various ministerial positions within the Irish government. Leading Fine Gael from June 2017 until March 2024, he serves as a representative of the Dublin West constituency, a position he has held since May 2007.

During his tenure as Minister for Transport, Tourism, and Sport from 2011 to 2014, Mr. Varadkar played a pivotal role in enhancing Dublin's light rail system, known as the Luas, revitalising the tourism industry, and spearheading the successful 'Gathering Ireland 2013' initiative. Transitioning to the role of Minister for Health from 2014 to 2016, he implemented policies such as free GP care for children under 6 and adults over 70, launched Ireland's inaugural National Maternity Strategy, and championed the enactment of the Public Health Alcohol Bill, now enshrined in law. From 2016 to 2017, serving as Minister for Social Protection, Mr. Varadkar prioritized social welfare, augmenting pensions and payments for carers, individuals with disabilities, and lone parents. Notably, he introduced Ireland's inaugural paid paternity benefit, extended social insurance benefits, and fortified protections for the self-employed and farmers.
