Prof. Balcerowicz successfully dealt with hyperinflation, foreign debt crisis, extreme imbalances in the economy, as well as social and political tensions related to the introduction of reforms. He is the only Central/Eastern European member of the prestigious financial advisory body Group of Thirty. In 2008-09 he was a member of "De Larosiere" a high-level expert group on financial supervision in the EU. As Chairman of the Polish National Bank (2001-2007), he reduced inflation from above 10% to 2%. He is currently Professor of Economics at the Warsaw School of Economics and Honorary Chairman of Bruegel - a Brussels think tank devoted to policy research on international economic issues. In 2016 he was appointed as representative of the Ukrainian President in the Cabinet of Ministers.
